INFORMATION DAY of S3P Agri-Food IN BRUSSELS: 12 May 2016

The European Commission is organising a thematic information day for regional and national authorities, regional clusters and representatives of the agri-food sector who are actively interested in co-creating a smart specialisation Agri-Food Platform to share best practices, jointly promote investments and innovation, and develop positions in new global value chains in the field of Agri-Food.

The event will take place in Brussels on 12 May 2016 (ERC Executive Agency, Covent Garden, Place Rogier 16 - Room 00 SDR2).

The event will give regions the possibility to define sub-themes of common strategic interest – such as for instance Agriculture and ICT, Water, Low Impact Farming, Food and Health.

The sub-themes defined at the information day will feed into the launch of a Smart Specialisation Platform for Agri-Food in June 2016. In practical terms, these sub-themes are expected to become a priority for the work of the new Platform and these regional partnerships are to be supported by the European Commission. In the longer term, the aim is also to help regional partnerships develop common projects and investment platforms that could target support from the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI).

If you wish to join the information day, please sign up here, by answering to a short set of questions regarding your region's experience and ambition in the context of agri-food investment and innovation. Please note that seats are limited and the Commission would therefore like to encourage the participation of people actively involved in developing and implementing agri-food strategies with a regional focus.

This information day is organised by the S3 Platform, on the initiative of DG AGRI, DG RTD and DG Regio.

ABOUT THE AGRI-FOOD PLATFORM

The Platform aims to promote innovation-driven investment in the domain of agro-food, based on bottom-up interregional cooperation in the value chain. DG AGRI, DG REGIO and DG RTD, in cooperation with DG JRC (the S3 Platform), are launching this Platform at the occasion of the High-Level Event on Smart Regions of the 1st of June. The S3 Platform (JRC-IPTS) will support the new Platform.

The Agri-Food Platform will develop a methodology for bottom-up cooperation that is driven by seeking leadership and complementarity in exploring new growth opportunities in international value chains across regions (smart specialisation). The first step is to identify lead-regions and priority areas to start more specific partnerships for co-investments in the modernisation of specific agro-food value chains. These partnerships should build on regional clusters and innovation systems but have European added-value through upscaling regional efforts by exploiting synergies.

Further information about this new Platform can be found on a dedicated page.
